Tx Hillary News-and Its BIG!!

Hillary on the move in Texas! Regains polling lead, possible new momentum shift in tthe state (see below). Big story here-Obama backer Veronica Escobar,El Paso Co Comissioner flips to Hillary after watching this week's debate. Also, progressive legend, frmr State Rep Dana Danburg, who represented the famous Houston Montrose and Museum districts- fought for 20yrs for the rights of all. A beloved figure among liberals, she lost her seat when delay redrew her lines and broke up her district.

Hillary is now barnstorming the state, including giving a key energy speech tonight in Houston, which none of her rivals bothered to attend. Also, she launches her last BIG Texas push  with huge Houston,Dallas,Ft Worth and El Paso rallies. Also, tommorrow she will have a rally with veterans in Waco.

Gen. Clark is now in Texas and will be holding events throughout the state! Please see below for info on these events, and on Hillary's new key endorsees.

InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion Survey Shows Shift in Momentum Towards Clinton in Texas Democratic Primary Race

Compiled from InsiderAdvantage and Southern Political Report staff

http://southernpoliticalreport.com/story link_228_247.aspx

February 28, 2008 -- InsiderAdvantage's latest survey in Texas shows a shift, at least temporarily, in momentum in the Democratic race for president. An earlier InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion survey conducted Monday night for the Southern Political Report showed Sen. Barack Obama with a one-point lead in the contest.

But a survey of 591 registered voters who are likely to vote in the Democratic primary in Texas conducted last night (February 27) indicates that Sen. Hillary Clinton has regained the lead in a race that remains within the survey's margin of error. The results were:

Clinton: 47%
Obama: 43%
Undecided: 10%

The survey has been weighted for age, race, gender and political affiliation. Margin of error +/- 4%

InsiderAdvantage/Creator's Syndicate's Matt Towery:

"This is a classic sign that a race might be starting to turn. We see the undecided voters increasing and unsettled numbers in key age brackets. Moreover, Clinton has expanded her lead among Hispanic voters, while holding onto white votes. She has dropped slightly among women, but has gained among men.

"Let me stress that these polls are snapshots of the moment. I am not yet willing to say that there is a definitive trend, such as the one that our polling on Super Tuesday detected for Mike Huckabee in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

"But Southern states - and Texas is well within the scope of coverage for our Southern Political Report, founded by Hastings Wyman in Washington 30 years ago - tend to have more complex demographic weightings in polls than most other states.

"If these trends continue over the coming days, then it might be fair to say the race is slowly drifting Clinton's way. For now, I think it's at least fair to say that has turned momentum, to some degree, back in her direction."

"I've Switched to Hillary"

El Paso County Commissioner and Former Barack Obama Supporter Veronica Escobar Switches Support to Hillary As Momentum in Texas Continues to Grow

El Paso, TX - The Clinton campaign announced today that El Paso County Commissioner and former Barack Obama supporter Veronica Escobar has switched her support to Hillary Clinton. The announcement follows a Latino Decisions Texas Poll that shows Hillary Clinton leading Barack Obama by 62% to 21% among registered Hispanic voters in Texas:

"While I initially liked Barack Obama, I am supporting Hillary Clinton because it is clear that she is the one candidate who will truly fight for our communities as President.

"In the last debate, I was inspired by Hillary's commitment to fighting for change. I know Hillary has what it takes to stand up to the Republicans and win in November.

"Hillary Clinton has a long history in Texas and understands the issues that matter to us.  In the past few weeks alone, Hillary, President Clinton, and Chelsea have each spent time listening to the voices of our border communities.

"I am impressed by Hillary's compassion: She really hears us and understands the challenges our communities face.

"Hillary Clinton has dedicated her life to improving the lives of others.  Hillary is the leader we need.  Only she has the experience to bring about the change America is calling for.

"I'm proud to support Hillary Clinton - I invite all Texans to join us in making history on March 4th."

Not so fast. You get representation by adequately sampling from the population of interest, in this case, Texans. What need is there for weighting if the sample were random even if it were stratified? Can anyone explain how the above poll result can proport to be representative?

Re: Tx Hillary News-and Its BIG!! (none / 0)

InsiderA's CEO recently wrote:

"You may hate Hillary and even Bill Clinton. But surely no one with half a brain could have couched the former president as a racist for noting nothing more than the press's failure to more closely examine Obama. "

This would be with reference to the racially insensitive comments for which Bill Clinton was forced to apologize. This, from an editorial on the same website as the poll. This does not give me any great sense of confidence in this polling firm. How is their track record this year?

That's what an editorial is...an opinion. Just because NYT has editorials that are pro-Clinton or pro-Obama sometimes, doesn't mean it is either. Judging a website based on an editorial which is supposed to be an opinion is just a way to bleaken the really good news. :)

Re: Tx Hillary News-and Its BIG!! (none / 0)

This is actually the person that runs the organization. Their bias to one candidate or the other could skew their results. It is even more likely to skew their analysis of the significance of their results.

According to a recent pollster "report card" by SUSA, the average error in InsiderA's polls is 7.5% compared to the election results, putting them in the bottom half of the active polling firms in reliability, three points worse than firms like Gallup and SUSA itself.

This is a tied poll from a medium-bad pollster with a pro-Clinton bias. Whether you consider it good news or not, it's not likely to be accurate.

Insider Advantage is wrong (none / 0)

I found the actual numbers from a front-page post.

One thing jumps out to me glaringly: Hispanics were EXTREMELY oversampled!
Their model is 38% white, 22% black, 37% Hispanic. Even if Hispanic turnout surges dramatically, the most they could get would be around 32%; I think that it will actually be around 25%, Burnt Orange Report agrees, and SUSA's last model has 28%.

Re: Your enthusiasm is great (none / 0)

So, let me get this straight:  I'm supposed to bet you that Hillary won't be delusional, that she will read the handwriting on the wall and realize that it's really much worse to lose 13 in a row than 11 and that she'll drop out, even though she's done nothing so far to indicate that she can take a hint...why would I take this bet?

Of course, she will go on to Pennsylvania.  This is her only shot at the Presidency.  Why should she drop out early?  Heck, let her go all the way to Denver, even though it will be decided by then and she'll lose on the first ballot.

But all that aside, it's over.  Her time has passed.

Officials from Sen. Clinton's campaign at several times throughout the call raised the specter of 'challenging the process,' the official said. "The call consisted of representatives from both campaigns and the Democratic Party.''

The source, who asked not to identified by name because he did not have authorization to speak about the matter, said Clinton 's political director, Guy Cecil, had forcefully raised the possibility of a courtroom battle.

Re: Tx Hillary News-and Its BIG!! (none / 0)

So it apparently doesn't bother you that the Clinton campaign is trying to sue the TX Demo party because they're losing? Suing them over the same rules that her campaign was hunky dory with back when she was "inevitable"?

Regardless of the outcome, such a move is only going to depress all the enthusiasm among Democratic voters this year and sow the seeds of cynicism a Clinton Campaign specialty, IMO). Is that really something to be proud of?

MSNBC reports that the Clinton campaign says it is absolutely NOT suing in Texas; this is an erroneous report, because what the Clinton campaign is doing is seeking certain numbers from the caucus. It's not a lawsuit at all.

Re: Clinton Camp Denies TX Lawsuit Threat (none / 0)

Good enough for me. But only if Obama's strong, flat-out denials of the CTV NAFTA report are good enough for Clinton's supporters.

I went back and read all your recent posts.  Not once did you have anything of substance to say about your supposed client, Hillary.  Every single post was just attacking Obama supporters.

Are you really a Clinton supporter or do you just like to fight with Obama supporters?

Re: Tx Hillary News-and Its BIG!! (none / 0)

Let's all pray that she ends her campaign gracefully after March 4th. If not, her sense of desperation and her mantra of "anything, no matter what to win" will get overwhelmingly ugly.

I consider Hillary to be a global icon of what's good in American politics but if she doesn't drop out after the 4th, my respect for her will undoubtedly diminish.

No, I believe Hillary should stay in until her real supporters tell her to drop out... I'm a real Hillary supporter.

Re: Tx Hillary News-and Its BIG!! (none / 0)

Not to me.

She has supporters in these states.

I live in a state whose primary was late in the season. By the time we voted alot of folks' presidential choice had dropped out of the running. The voting didn't necessarily reflect your first choice. Instead it was the choice of what was left because the other candidates dropped out. I think it would be nice to see the candidates run the entire season. It could have resulted in different outcomes, especially in this race where the two candidates have been running pretty much a 50-50 race. This isn't the truly lopsided race that I keep hearing about.

I hate to be a cynic here, but dropping out would be less of because of the voter's choice and more because of their lack of choice.
